Dick "Night Train" Lane

Dick "Night Train" Lane was one of the best defensive backs in the NFL. He died of a heart attack at age 73. Lane was a member of the NFL all time team for its 1st 75 years. His weapon was a clothesline type move that was labeled the "Night Train Necktime" which eventually was outlawed from the game. He had fast speed and good size. His 1st year he intercepted 14 times in a 12 game season. This record held for 50 years even after the season expanded to 16 games. Dick played for the Los Angeles Rams. Tex Schramm said he was the best defensive player he had ever seen. Lane suffered from diabetes, knee problems and back problems.
